Book of Mormon Blogging Part Three. 3 Nephi 13.

The words Jesus speaks to the Nephites in 3 Nephi 13 are comparable to the words he speaks to the words he speaks to the Jews in Matthew 6 of the Bible. I specifically want to highlight how he mentions the Lord's Prayer, and what it can teach us about how to pray. The version of the Lord's prayer in the 3 Nephi 13 can be found in verses nine through thirteen.

9 After this ^amanner therefore ^bpray ye: Our ^cFather who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

11 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

12 And ^alead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

13 For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

I love this, because I think it is a great template for prayer. This prayer discusses so much the importance of our Heavenly Father in our lives. He should be number one in our lives and we should rely wholly on Him and His son who is so willing to save.

I especially love verse 10. Heavenly Father's will is already done in Heaven, because those that dwell therein are already perfect enough to be saved. Here on Earth however, His will is often left undone, because we do not follow His counsel with exactness. His will will only be done if we listen and let it be done.

Heavenly Father's power is further highlighted in verse 13. We are more willing to acknowledge that we need to trust in Heavenly Father's abilities when we already recognize and point attention to His power. His power and glory, as the verse states, is forever. With Him on our side we will Never Fail.

This prayer is a great template; it first exhorts us to realize Heavenly Father's importance and then it exhorts us to ask for forgiveness. I think asking for forgiveness on a daily basis invites the Spirit to be present with you. If you do not do that, pray to be forgiven you are likely unwilling to be converted to whatever the gospel takes.

Overall this prayer is all about conversion, total conversion to believe that Heavenly Father can and will solve all bad events, if, we will let Him.
